Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) is a great way to gather more information about your patient or client. It’s like putting the pieces of a puzzle together. When you are familiar with the areas of the body to look for with muscle loss you are able to properly determine if a patient is at an increased nutritional risk, diagnose malnutrition, and formulate an individualized nutrition related care plan to combat muscle loss.
All these things are important because it not only impacts reimbursement, but it enables the dietetic practitioner to be more hands-on (clinical) and improve patient outcomes. In today’s video we discuss how to assess muscle loss and what specific regions to look at when examining the body.
Objectives:
A. NFPE as it relates to assessing muscle loss.
B. What regions of the body to specifically look for when assessing muscle loss.
