Diabetic ketoacidosis better known as DKA is a serious metabolic complication that usually occurs in individuals with type 1 and 2 diabetes. The body’s preferred source of energy is glucose and DKA results when there is profound insulin deficiency. This means glaze cannot be used as energy and fat is used instead. During DKA when the body starts using fat as its primary energy source this results in the build of ketones which can be life threatening.
In today’s we’ll look at what causes DKA, some of the signs and symptoms, and what can be done to prevent the onset of DKA. Managing one’s glucose levels is the primary goal. This can be done through diet and medications. Interested in learning how to manage one’s blood sugar levels though diet?
