Health informatics combines the field of science, medicine, and information technology. DYK dietitians are also heavily involved in this field as well? Today I have Tamara Melton, MS, RDN, CPHIMS who is an educator, health informaticist, and co-founder of Diversify Dietetics. She has a plethora of knowledge to share today. Watch this video too see.
◤ABOUT TAMARA◥
Tamara S. Melton, MS, RDN, LD, CPHIMS- Bio
Tamara is currently the National Director of Health Informatics at Morrison Healthcare, the nation’s largest healthcare foodservice company. In this role, Tamara leads the strategic efforts of the Corporate Support teams to leverage data from various sources to support business outcomes improvement initiatives. She is also a liaison between operator end users and corporate support teams and IT development teams.
Prior to her current role at Morrison Healthcare, Tamara spent 6 years at Georgia State University as the inaugural Program Director of the Lewis College’s Health Informatics undergraduate and graduate programs and a Department of Nutrition Professor. At GSU Tamara grew this unique program to over 200 students, many of whom were first generation Americans and college students.
Tamara is also the co-founder and Executive Director of Diversify Dietetics, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the field of nutrition by empowering students and young professionals from underrepresented minority groups to join the next generation of nutrition experts.
Tamara lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and two daughters.
